Homosexuality in Light of the Bible

We live in a world of change. Today, in our modern Western culture, many things that were once frowned upon by society have now become acceptable and even something we should all be ‘proud’ of. One such example of this is the growing acceptance of homosexuality as a ‘normal’, ‘healthy’, ‘lifestyle choice’. 

But the question is it ‘okay to be gay’? Is the homosexual lifestyle right? Or is it wrong? What does the Bible teach about this subject?

This booklet has been written to help give you the Bible’s position on this issue, and to give you the biblical vocabulary (or words) that Christians should use when describing this sin. Then towards the end of this booklet you will also find many facts and statistics that support the Bible’s teaching on this subject.

The picture being painted for us today by the mainstream media and our corrupt, decadent Western governments is not one that is based upon reality and fact. Many are being deceived by the pro ‘gay’ propaganda that we see all around us, and so we would be wise to take a step back, and listen to what the Bible has to say.  

Whether you believe and accept the teachings of the Bible or not – the Bible is right about the issue of homosexuality. Let us begin by looking at the famous Bible passage that tells the account of what happened to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.    

Sodom and Gomorrah

The book of Genesis chapter 19 verses 1-25 tells the story of the destruction of the cites of Sodom and Gomorrah (it is recommended that you read this passage through to get the full story and all the details). The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were filled with and dominated by homosexuals. The chapter describes how two men (who turn out to be angels) came to Sodom to warn a man by the name of Lot of the impending judgment of God upon the two cities for their evil. The two travellers then inform Lot that they are willing to sleep that night in the street. However the Bible tells us that Lot compels the men to come into his home and stay the night there instead. We then read in verses 4-5: “But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: and they called unto Lot, and said unto him, where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.” (The term ‘know them’ used here in verse five does not mean getting to know them in the sense of making new friends. It is rather the Bible’s (polite) way of describing a sexual encounter. For example, Genesis 4:1 reads: “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain”.) 

Horrified at what the men of Sodom desired to do to these visitors, Lot pleads with them, “I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly” (verse 7). At this point we discover a word that should be used by Christians when describing this sin – wicked. (or, wrong, evil, bad). As we read on, Lot then in desperation offers his daughters to the men if they would only agree not to violate these two male visitors. However this offer is declined and the homosexuals then threaten to not only sexually violate/rape the two visiting men, but to also do worse to Lot himself (verse 9). The situation escalates when the homosexuals then look set to physically assault Lot and break into the house. The two visitors then grab Lot, pull him inside, bolt the door, and, “Smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door” (verse 11). Safe (for the time being) inside Lot’s home the two visiting angels then reveal their identity to Lot, as well as describe God’s plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, and the need for Lot and his family to escape before it is too late. 

The judgment of God upon the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah is a very significant event in the Bible. The word ‘Sodom’ or ‘Sodomite’ (the Biblical term used to describe homosexuals) is found fifty four times in Scripture. It is a term used to describe men who are attracted to other men, and/or women who are attracted to other women. Modern terms would be ‘same sex attraction’, ‘gay’, lesbian, and homosexual. But for Christians the correct term is Sodomite, with the origin of the name coming from this incident in Genesis 19. 

Here are a few more examples of the term Sodomite (homosexual) being used in other places in the Bible: 

1 Kings 14:24: “And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.” (Here we see one of the reasons why God passed judgment upon many of the Canaanite tribes – because they indulged in homosexuality)

1 Kings 15:11-12: “And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.” (King Asa was a righteous king, and although he could have been praised for many good things he did, the fact that he removed the Sodomites from the land is given an honourable mention. Notice also how that sodomy and idolatry (the worship of false gods) is mentioned together. The link between these two sins is seen in other passages of Scripture as we will see later.)

2 Kings 23:7: (about King Josiah) “He brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the grove”.

Leviticus 20:13: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” (The sin of sodomy carried the death penalty, when God ran the government of Israel. This attitude towards sodomy is not foreign to western culture. Here are a few quotes from, ‘Homosexuals And The Death Penalty In Colonial America’: USA: “It appears that in 1776 male homosexuals in the original 13 colonies were universally subject to the death penalty.” UK: “The first English statute against homosexuality was placed on the books by Parliament in 1533, under Henry VIII. This law, which made it a capital crime… was several times re-enacted and repealed, and finally reinstated under Elizabeth in 1563 in a form that remained unchanged until 1861, when the death penalty was dropped for life imprisonment.” (p277-278)

Some Common Misconceptions

One common, modern misconception is the incorrect use of the term ‘gay’ to describe Sodomites. The word actually means ‘happy’, ‘bright’, and ‘cheerful’, and is a word that is even used in the Bible (See James 2:3). ‘Gay’ has nothing to do with the wicked sin of homosexuality. 

Another common, modern misconception portrayed by much of the media today is that Sodomites ‘Just want to be in a loving relationship and settle down and get married’, just like normal ‘straight’ people. But this is not what we see here in Genesis 19. The men of Sodom were not content to be with each other – they wanted the two innocent strangers who came to visit Lot (by force if necessary). Verse 9 of Genesis 19 reads: “And they [the Sodomites] said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them”. Genesis 19 clearly shows us that instead of being a kind, gentle, tolerant, group of people, Sodomites in general will stop at nothing until they get their own way. This principle can be applied to how they conduct themselves personally, and also in the aggressive way the pro-sodomite agenda is forced upon our culture. When will the lust and the agenda of the Sodomites be satisfied? It never will, and if things continue as they are, there is every possibility that a nation can go the way of Sodom, to the point where the streets become unsafe at night, homosexuality dominates every facet of society, and those who won’t give the Sodomites what they want are literally besieged and in fear of their lives. Notice also in verse nine of what they accuse Lot: “This one fellow [Lot] came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge”.  Aren’t Christians accused of the exact same thing today – of ‘judging’ homosexuals? This kind of accusation against Christians by Sodomites is nothing new.  

Now let us consider another less well known passage in the Bible that records another incident regarding homosexuals. And once again, we will see the same situation playing out all over again.

Judges 19

To set the backdrop of the story, the passage describes a man travelling with his ‘concubine’ (a girlfriend he lives with), who shows up in the town and tries to find a place to stay. Unable to find anywhere, they prepare to spend the night in the street. An old man passing by then meets them and urges them not to stay out in the street at night and instead lodge with him.  Here is the rest of the passage with some brief explanation between the verses (verses 22-28): 

“Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial [Baal/Beelzebub/term for ‘Satan’ – so very wicked individuals], beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him. [same term as used in Genesis 19]. And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly [again, this sin is called ‘wicked’ as in Genesis 19]; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly. Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. [At this point we discover a word that should be used by Christians when describing the sin of homosexuality – vile, or disgusting, revolting, sick]. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning [she was sexually violated throughout the night]: and when the day began to spring, they let her go. Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light. And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold. And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered [she was dead]. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.”

This story found in Judges 19 is not a very pleasant one. But we are dealing with a very unpleasant subject. As we have seen, the Bible paints a very negative picture when it comes to homosexuality. The propaganda we are bombarded with on the television, the film and music industry, and our pro-sodomite Western governments  is nothing short of a lie. 

What about the New Testament?

Some argue that it is only the Old Testament part of the Bible that condemns the sin of homosexuality. Is this true? Let us now consider some key New Testament passages.

2 Peter 2:6-7: “And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation [or behaviour] of the wicked.” Here we are given the reason why God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah – to make an example of them for future generations to be warned by. Notice also how the New Testament does not describe the Sodomites as merely living an ‘alternative lifestyle’, but rather calls their behaviour filthy (vile, disgusting), and labels them as ‘wicked’ (evil, wrong, bad).

Jude 7: “Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” 

Again, the New Testament explains the reason why Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed – they were to be made an example of for future generations to be warned by. Some argue that God only judged Sodom and Gomorrah merely for the violent way in which the men of the city tried to fulfil their lust. But clearly here we see the specific reason was for their “fornication” (sex before marriage), and the nature of that fornication – that it was with “strange flesh” (men with men, women with women). Another word for ‘strange’ is ‘queer’ (weird, odd, not normal) which is another term we should use when describing homosexuality. It is not normal for a man to desire another man in a sexual way. 

Another key passage in the New Testament is Romans 1:18-32. Verses 18-23 describes how mankind knows deep down there is a God and that man has no excuse for not believing in Him. These verses then go on to explain that when man turns his back on the true God, man then descends into idolatry – the worship of false gods and idols. Verse 24-27 then describes what happens next, “Wherefore [or, ‘because of this idolatry’] God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves. Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile [again, the same word used in Genesis 19] affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”  

We see in this passage that one of the results of man’s rejection of the true God is the descent into the worship of false gods (idolatry), and God then ‘giving them up’ or ‘giving them over’ to their own hearts lust. And specifically here the passage describes homosexuality. This sin of ‘men with men’ (as we have already seen before) is called here in Romans 1, ‘vile’, ‘unseemly’ (inappropriate, rude, improper) an ‘uncleanness’ (something that is corrupted and dirty), ‘not convenient’ (which means it does not come naturally), and is described as being something that is ‘against nature’. The term ‘against nature’ is vitally important for us to understand. Some say homosexuality is wrong because it is something that is ‘unnatural’. But this is an incorrect description, as it does occur in nature – in the animal kingdom. The Bible’s term ‘against nature’ is more accurate. As human beings, there are some things that we simply cannot do, because it ‘goes against’ our nature. For example, there are animals that at times will eat their own excrement. But to us as human beings, this kind of behaviour is revolting because it goes against our nature. The same applies to homosexuality. To a normal human being, the idea of being intimate with another member of the same sex is a repulsive thought. It goes against our nature. A man’s natural (normal) instinct is to be attracted to a woman. And a woman’s natural instinct is to be attracted to a man. However, when man turns his back upon God, and descends into idolatry, God then gives up those individuals to do things that ‘go against’ their God given instinct.

Verse 28 of Romans 1 continues, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.” Notice the order given here in this verse. Man first rejects God, then God ‘gives them over’ to their own hearts lust. So homosexuals are not ‘born that way’ but rather they become that way after they ‘choose’ to reject God (by either not believing in Him at all, or by worshipping a false god, or even making up a ‘god’ of their own). Some homosexuals argue that ‘God made me this way’, and when they say that, they are partially correct. BUT one must remember that it is they who first chose to reject the true God, and then God makes them that way when He gives them over to their lust. (A list of other sexual sins is given in Leviticus 18). God is not the author of their sin, but rather they reject God, and then the sin comes from their own heart. A great example of this pattern in Scripture and a good passage to compare to Romans 1, is found in Psalm 81:10-16. This Psalm describes how God’s people (the Israelites) chose to turn their back upon God, and then He gave them over to their lusts. In their rebellion against Him, Psalm 81 then describes the people as being ‘haters of God’, a very fitting term that can also be applied to the Sodomites today. Many of them vehemently hate the God of the Bible and the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you look at verse 28 of Romans chapter 1 you will find the verse ends with a semi-colon (;). This means the sentence continues over into verse 29 – and gives us further details about the various sins that man increasingly manifests as he continues in his rebellion against the true God.  Verse 29 goes on to say that these individuals (including Sodomites) are, “Filled with all unrighteousness…”. So when an individual chooses to reject God, and God then gives them over to the sin of homosexuality, a whole load of other sins can begin flooding into their lives. Obviously, every individual is different, but generally speaking, you will find an increased amount of iniquity (lawlessness and sin) manifesting itself in the lives of homosexuals. So according to the Bible, homosexuality is not the only area these Sodomites are messed up in. Rather, they are, “Filled with all unrighteousness, fornication [sexual impurity], wickedness, covetousness [materialistic and out of control spending habits], maliciousness [spiteful, cruel, mean, vicious]; full of envy [jealousy, greed, resentment, bitterness], murder [see facts section at the end of this booklet], debate [arguing, disputing], deceit [liars], malignity [disposed to cause harm/distress/suffering deliberately]; whisperers, backbiters [slanderers, vengeful], haters of God [same term used in Psalm 81], despiteful, proud [conceited, arrogant, self-important], boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers [promise breakers], without natural affection [deviant or corrupted in their desires], implacable, unmerciful. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (v29-32)

Perhaps the last two descriptive words used in these verses are the most chilling. ‘Implacable’ means someone who cannot be reasoned with, and who is never satisfied. The next word ties in well – ‘unmerciful’. An unmerciful person is pitiless, ruthless, and cold-hearted in their treatment of others. This is consistent with the account in Genesis 19 in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. When Lot begged the homosexual men of the city to not violate the two visitors, these wicked, vile individuals replied, “Stand back…now will we deal worse with thee, than with them”. No mercy shown here! No reasoning with these homosexuals! No placating them! In Judges 19 we see exactly the same thing. The wicked homosexual men of that city showed no mercy towards the woman they abused. They in fact abused her all night until she was dead.

To clarify the previous point – there are varying levels at which an individual indulges in sin. Not every homosexual is guilty of every sin in this list. But what can be observed from the passages that we have considered is that there certainly is a higher tendency amongst homosexuals to exhibit more of these ungodly attributes.

Other Common Modern Misconceptions

Does the Bible Condemn love?

Another common, modern misconception that is promoted today is that most homosexuals are attracted to only those of the same gender (i.e. homosexual men are only attracted to homosexual men, and have no desires towards women). However, the Bible indicates that many homosexuals may well go ‘both ways’. In Judges chapter 19 the Sodomites there did not hold back from raping the woman offered to them.

Another common, modern misconception is that the Bible is against love if it condemns homosexuality. “So what if two men love each other – what is wrong with that?” some may ask. However, it is not love between two men that the Bible condemns. In the Bible, Jonathan (the son of King Saul) loved David so much that it says his love passed the love of a woman (see: 2 Samuel 1:26). However, nowhere in the Bible are we told that David and Jonathan were actually homosexual. 1 Samuel 18:1 reads, “And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” These two men were not indulging in the wicked sin of homosexuality, they loved each other, and in more modern terms were simply ‘soul mates’. Love between men is not the issue being discussed in this booklet. It is not sinful for a son to love his father, or a man to love his brother, or a mother to love her daughter, or even any two people of the same gender to love each other. By definition, ‘Homosexuality’ does NOT mean the love shared between two members of the same gender. Rather, homosexuality is defined as, “Sexual desire or [sexual] behaviour directed toward a person or persons of one’s own sex” (www.dictionary.com). So the Bible does not condemn love, but rather the sexual perversion of homosexuality – the actual carnal perverted attraction (lust) between members of the same sex, and the actual physical act. 

The Facts Speak for Themselves

So far in this booklet we have seen the Bible paint a very ugly picture when it comes to homosexuality. Sadly, today, many (even professing Christians) do not hold to this biblical view, and instead have adopted the view that homosexuality is simply an ‘alternative lifestyle’ (like being a vegetarian), and is perfectly ‘healthy’ and ‘normal’. Which viewpoint is based upon reality and fact? Now we will take a look at some statistics and see what scientific research says. (Note: The statistics given here come from a mixture of both ‘Conservative/Christian’ organisations and also from ‘pro homosexual’ groups and government bodies).

Health: We are told by the mainstream media and government that the homosexual ‘lifestyle’ is perfectly ‘healthy’. However…

HIV Rates in the UK: “More than half (54%) of people newly diagnosed with HIV in 2014 were men who have sex with men, despite this group only making up an estimated 2-3% of the male population… Men who have sex with men (MSM) is a term used to describe gay men, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men. It is estimated that 1 in 20 MSM in the UK has HIV, increasing to 1 in 11 in London (1 in 28 outside of London).” (www.nat.org.uk/HIV-in-the-UK/HIV-Statistics/Latest-UK-statistics/Men-who-have-sex-with-men.aspx)

HIV Rates in the USA: “Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) of all races and ethnicities remain the population most profoundly affected by HIV… Although MSM represent about 4% of the male population in the United States, in 2010, MSM accounted for 78% of new HIV infections among males and 63% of all new infections.” (www.cdc.gov/hiv/pdf/statistics_basics_ataglance_factsheet.pdf) 

Other diseases: So this ‘healthy gay lifestyle’ we are told about is simply a myth. Homosexuals are much more likely to pick up the deadly HIV infection, and it appears that HIV is not the only problem, “Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) have been rising among gay and bisexual men, with increases in syphilis being seen across the country. In 2014, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men accounted for 83% of primary and secondary syphilis cases… Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men often get other STDs, including chlamydia and gonorrhea infections.” (www.cdc.gov/msmhealth/std.htm) The website also mentions other diseases and infections but they are too graphic to mention here.

Promiscuity: Why are the disease rates so high amongst homosexuals? Surely they all just want to settle down, ‘get married’, and remain loyal to one partner? At least that is what we are told. In fact the opposite is true. In their classic study, researchers A.P. Bell and M.S. Weinberg found that 43% of male homosexuals had over 500 partners, and 28% had already had more than 1000! (‘Homosexualities: A Study of Diversity Among Men and Women’, p.308-9). Their research also revealed that over 50% of these carnal acts were done with complete strangers! Only a mere 17% of those surveyed reported as having less than 50 partners, and that being monogamous (faithful to one partner) was nonexistent. 

Life expectancy: This out of control promiscuity amongst many homosexuals has its downsides. One study after another supports the fact that the homosexual lifestyle is not a healthy one. The following excerpts are from a June 2005 article published by Lifesite.net. They found that, “A new study which analyzed tens of thousands of gay obituaries and compared them with AIDS deaths data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), has shown that the life expectancy for homosexuals is about twenty years shorter than that of the general public… Dr. Cameron indicated that he hoped the sobering results of the new study, in addition to such similar past studies, would finally cause a “re-examination”, saying that “our society needs to reassess what it’s doing with those who engage in homosexuality”. The schools, he said, are doing a fine job educating children about dangerous activities such as smoking and the use of illegal drugs. But they are increasingly teaching that homosexuality is the same as heterosexual behaviour. “It certainly isn’t,” said Cameron. “Here we have homosexual activity, which, literally, is much worse than smoking, and yet the schools continue to teach that it is normative and safe behaviour”.” (www.lifesitenews.com/all/date/2005/06/06#article-yet-another-study-confirms-gay-life-expectancy-20-years-shorter)

Murder rates: “A pioneering study of 6,714 obituaries in gay newspapers across the U.S. revealed that 3% of 6,574 gays and 20% of 140 lesbians had died violently: 1.4% of gays and 7% of lesbians were murdered (rates over a hundred times those of non-gays)” (‘Violence and Homosexuality’, www.familyresearchinst.org) The eminent pathologist Dr. William Eckert wrote concerning homosexual homicides: “Equally high is the number of homicides, many probably related to transient attachments, which often lead to suspicion, jealousy, and murder. When murder does occur it is exceptionally brutal with an overkill appearance.” Dr. Bernard Knight was a Professor of Forensic Pathology in the University of Wales until he retired in 1996. He and Dr. Saukko (the editor of Forensic Science International) co-authored a pathology textbook entitled ‘Knight’s Forensic Pathology’ in 2004 which declared: “It is a fact that some of the most violent homicides seen by pathologists are among male homosexuals.” (www.conservapedia.com/Homosexuality_and_Murders)

Child molestation: “The evidence indicates that homosexual men molest boys at rates grossly disproportionate to the rates at which heterosexual men molest girls. To demonstrate this it is necessary to connect several statistics related to the problem of child sex abuse: 1) men are almost always the perpetrator; 2) up to one-third or more of child sex abuse cases are committed against boys; 3) less than three percent of the population are homosexuals. Thus, a tiny percentage of the population (homosexual men), commit one-third or more of the cases of child sexual molestation.” (‘Homosexuality and Child Sexual Abuse’, www.frc.org)

“A disproportionate percentage — 29% — of the adult children of homosexual parents had been specifically subjected to sexual molestation by that homosexual parent, compared to only 0.6% of adult children of heterosexual parents having reported sexual relations with their parent. …Having a homosexual parent(s) appears to increase the risk of incest with a parent by a factor of about 50.” (P. Cameron and K. Cameron, “Homosexual Parents,” Adolescence 31 (1996): p.772)

Space does not permit to cite further studies and research, but what we have seen here demonstrates that what the Bible teaches about the sin of homosexuality is based on science and fact. The Bible tells us the truth about the Sodomites. 

Is There Any hope for the homosexual? 

Despite the clear condemnation of homosexuality in the Bible, there is still hope for the homosexual. Yes, the truth about homosexuality must be made known, but so must the way of escape that God offers to those who are caught up in this sin. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 reads, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind [homosexuals], Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” The truth is that we are all wicked sinners deserving the justice of God, as this passage lists a whole variety of sins – not just homosexuality. We all need a Saviour! In the early church, there in the Greek city of Corinth, there were those present in the congregation who were once caught up in the wicked sin of homosexuality, and yet they were now delivered from it and on their way to Heaven. If a homosexual is willing to admit their sin (not just their homosexuality, but all their sin), then confess it to almighty God, turn to Jesus Christ, and trust in Him alone for salvation, then like those ex-homosexuals in the early Corinthian church, they too can be “washed” clean of their sins and made right with God. The Bible says: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). That is good news for the homosexual indeed! 

A Rallying Call

How ought we to respond to the issue of homosexuality in our culture as Christians? Taking the soft, compromising, ‘accepting’ approach is not the answer. It has been tried, and it does not work. The pro-sodomite agenda continues its advance with one victory after another, and the light of our religious freedom, may because of our sin and neglect, be one day extinguished. The right Christian response to this challenge is to fearlessly tackle it head on. In pulpits and in the wider public arena, those to name the name of Christ ought to stand up for the truth of God’s Word, and not tone down what the Bible clearly says. We ought to make use of the words the Bible employs when describing this sin, and not replace them with ‘politically correct’, ‘inoffensive’ alternatives. Has this generation of Christians become mere pleasers of men? Do we tell people what they want to hear, and not what they ought to hear? Are we to help perishing men and women on their way to Hell by our smooth speeches? Does the fear of man have the mastery over us? There is a world full of people out there who need to hear the truth. We cannot stand idly by, or cower away in fear. 

Homosexuals need the gospel. If Christians shrink back from witnessing to these people, then we truly are ‘discriminating’ against homosexuals by not extending the call of the gospel to them. They need to be told the truth in a loving and compassionate way. They need to be shown how they have broken the whole of God’s Law (the Ten Commandments) and are not just guilty of homosexuality. They need to see how their sin against God makes Judgment Day and Hell reasonable. Then once we have faithfully explained these vitals truths we must reveal the Saviour to them and explain what they need to do to be saved. Are you willing to do this? May it be this generation that sees many homosexuals delivered from their sin, and set on a path that leads to a glorious home in Heaven! With God all things are possible.
